We’ve put together this helpful visual guide to help you measure your roof like a pro.
Below are the 4 most common types of roof found in the UK.
Flat Roof
Hipped Roof
Gable Roof
Monopitch Roof
Calculating an area is quite simple, you will require a tape measure and a calculator. Simpy measure the rafter length (y) and eaves width (x) of your roof and then multiply them together.
For example:
If your eaves width is 3 metres and the rafters are 2 metres long then you will have a surface area of 6 metres square (3m x 2m = 6m2)
The example shown is a monopitch roof, the same formula applies to hipped and gable roofs but you will need to multiply the outcome x 2.
